War against Libya: the role of former colonizer Italy

juni 29, 2011

Even though Italy entered the war providing only ‘limited military and logistical support’, it now leads 30 per cent of the operations against Libya, on par with France and Great Britain. According to Italy’s Interior Ministry, the operation has already cost 1 billion Euros (US$ 1.3 billion).

Germany more and more involved in the war against Libya

juni 28, 2011

Germany is more and more involved in the war against Libya by the supply of weapons.
Germany is also involved in the bombing of Afghanistan and Pakistan and there is a military cooperation with Israel.
The drones (unmanned aircraft) used by NATO to bomb Afghanistan, Pakistan and Libya are designed by Israel. The Israelis are denied entry into Afghanistan, but nevertheless, the Israeli drones provide ‘security’ for the coalition in Afghanistan. Israeli drones are used by Canada, France, Australia and Germany in Afghanistan. Today, Israeli specialists are on the air base at Ein Shemer for training the flight of “Herons” repainted in the colors of Germany. Many of Israeli military products are standard NATO-compatible.

American Indian Movement activist joins Gaza Freedom Flotilla

juni 27, 2011

The Free Palestine Movement said that the American Indian Movement West (AIM-WEST) contains “a spirit of resistance to colonization, respect for traditional knowledge and self-determination, and a commitment to inter-tribalism.”

“Among the objectives of AIM-WEST is to raise awareness on issues that concern or impact upon Indians of the Americas on a daily basis,” the Free Palestine Movement said.

Those issues range from racism in sports and public schools, to protection of sacred sites, mining and water contamination, youth and the rights of the child, honor and respect for treaties and agreements, political prisoners, police brutality, immigration and militarization of the borders, climate change, and green economy conversion for sustainable futures.

AIM-WEST is also pressing for the implementation of the recent adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Free Palestine Movement said.

As the flotilla prepared to leave from Mediterranean ports this week, the US increased threats to halt the US boat and Greece officials intervened to stop the boat. Meanwhile, Israel warned international journalists that they could be banned from entering Israel for ten years and their equipment confiscated.

Late last week, the US State Department issued increasingly threatening statements to US passengers on the flotilla, ultimately threatening fines or imprisonment. Then, six Congressmen urged the State Department to ensure safe passage for US citizens. Finally, Greece officials intervened and said the US boat, the Audacity of Hope, was not seaworthy.

American State Department Travel Warning: If You Try To Sail To Gaza, Israel May Kill You

Ali Gharib on June 22, 2011:

The State Department today released an updated travel warning for Israel and the Occupied Territories. The update signified that it was issued “to warn against participation in any attempt to reach Gaza by sea.” The warning is likely in light of the so-called “Freedom Flotilla” of humanitarian activists setting out any day now to break the blockade of Gaza enforced by the Israeli military.

Last year, a similar attempt to break the blockade ended in the deaths of nine people, including an American.

The State Department warning said:

The security environment within Gaza, including its border with Egypt and its seacoast, is dangerous and volatile. U.S. citizens are advised against traveling to Gaza by any means, including via sea. Previous attempts to enter Gaza by sea have been stopped by Israeli naval vessels and resulted in the injury, death, arrest, and deportation of U.S. citizens. U.S. citizens participating in any effort to reach Gaza by sea should understand that they may face arrest, prosecution, and deportation by the Government of Israel. […] On May 31, 2010, nine people were killed, including one U.S. citizen, in such an attempt.

What’s it costing British taxpayers to bomb Libya? | Ian Katz | The Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/jun/19/cost-british-taxpayers-bomb-libya

Nato’s new headquarters in Brussels will cost its members €1billion (£841 million) at a time of deep cuts to British defence budgets and despite promises by the Alliance to cut its costs. Officials confirmed the rising scale of the cost against a background of Nato pledges to reduce its command structure, agencies and national HQs by 30 per cent in response to savage defence cuts in most of its 28 member states. But despite the promises of cuts to Nato bureaucracy, construction began in mid-December on a stylish new building to house military officials.

The American Apache attack helicopter that was shot today in the war against Libya, while, according to Obama’s declaration before the American congress, there is ‘no war’…
NATO organized 11,644 Air Missions and 4,409 Combat Sorties. Universities, hospitals and public buildings were destroyed. Civilians were killed.

The AH-64 Apache is armed with a 30-millimeter (1.2 in) M230 Chain Gun carried between the main landing gear, under the aircraft’s forward fuselage. It has four hardpoints mounted on stub-wing pylons, typically carrying a mixture of AGM-114 Hellfire and Hydra 70 rocket pods. The AH-64 also features double- and triple-redundant aircraft systems to improve survivability for the aircraft and crew in combat, as well as improved crash survivability for the pilots.
It has become the primary attack helicopter of several nations. It has been exported to, including Greece, Japan, Israel, the Netherlands and Singapore; as well as being produced under license in the United Kingdom as the AgustaWestland Apache. U.S.
AH-64s have served in conflicts in Panama, Persian Gulf War, Kosovo War, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Israel has made active use of the Apache in its military conflicts in Lebanon and Gaza Strip, while two coalition allies have deployed their AH-64s in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Primary users: United States Army, Israel Air Force, Egyptian Air Force, Royal Netherlands Air Force.
Unit cost: AH-64A: US$20 million (2007).

NATO bombs civilians for the invasion of Libya

juni 19, 2011

Russia, which has always been against the military means of settling the conflict, has sent his peace mediator Mikhail Margelov to Libya, in order to try to persuade the warring sides to start talking.

After having spoken to representatives from both sides, Margelov said that ‘everyone is ready for negotiations, but NATO should first stop the airstrikes’.
Tunisia has come up with a proposal to hold the talks on its soil.

At the same time NATO and its rebels reject every peace proposal during several months. So it is clear that NATO and Libya’s former colonizer Italy, are just trying to gain time for their invasion. It is therefore that Obama said before the American congress that we have not to see the more than 4.000 bombings of Libya as a war but as a ‘mission’. These are the classic lies that precede a full-scale war.

As the American congressmen and the Russion diplomats wake up, it will be too late.

2) As a reminder: Sderot resident and Canadian citizen Cherna Rosenberg has filed a million dollar law suit against two Canadian organizations raising money to sponsor a ship – The Canadian Boat to Gaza – to join the international flotilla to Gaza. Rosenberg’s lawyers are asking the court to order the groups to pay damages in the amount of $1,000,000 for trauma and injury, $20,000 in renovation and relocation costs, as well as an injunction prohibiting the groups to raise money for the flotilla and to send goods to Gaza.  http://www.jpost.com/

3) As a reminder:
On 1.3.2011 Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said he believed a no-fly zone should be imposed on Libya to stop a “danger of genocide”. Speaking at a conference in Brussels, Ayalon said international moves to impose a no-fly zone over Libya to stop Moamer Kadhafi using air strikes against his own people, ‘had not been discussed by the Israeli government’. ‘There is a danger of genocide in Libya. Morally we have to stop it and its best to have the UN’s okay,” he said. (AFP) Ayalon was the Israeli ambassador in the U.S.     On 2.3.2011 (one day after the visit of Danny Ayalon to Brussels, headquarter of NATO), US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that a no-fly zone could be imposed on Libya, ‘in order to prevent Gaddafi from bombing his own people’. She hinted strongly that ‘direct military intervention is on the cards’ and said that ‘it is time for Gaddafi to go’.
